I will introduce the laboratory I lead. For details about our research, please refer to the research introduction page. I am a professor in the Department of Marine Mechanical Engineering at the National Fisheries University of Japan.
The Department of Marine Mechanical Engineering focuses on training ship crew members, primarily admitting students aspiring to obtain the “Licensed Mariner (3rd Engineer)” qualification. Owing to the nature of this university, only a master’s degree program is offered in the graduate school, with a limited number of students pursuing further studies.
My lab also has two fourth-year undergraduate students working on their graduation theses. Two additional students are currently pursuing their seafaring training and will complete their studies in six months by submitting a simple research report. A master’s student joins the lab approximately once every few years.
Due to this situation, our lab does not have any doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, or research assistants. Consequently, I conduct research independently. I dedicate my free time outside of classes and school-related work (entrance exam preparation, student guidance, etc.) to research endeavors. As a result, I am typically able to publish one or two papers per year. This explains the prevalence of single-authored papers in my publication list.
